Good morning, East Tennessee! Happy Monday, and thanks for checking in with your local eastTNweather digital forecast. I’m meteorologist Mike Witcher, and I sure hope you’re enjoying that fresh fall feeling in the air this morning.

We’re starting off much cooler than yesterday, with many of us in the 50s and low 60s. Some of the kiddos may even need a light jacket at the bus stop—something we haven’t said in a while for late August! This refreshing change is thanks to a ridge of high pressure in the Desert Southwest and a trough dipping into the Great Lakes and the southeastern U.S. That setup is helping to:

  1. Clear out our skies,

  2. Drop our dew points, and

  3. Keep our high temperatures running about 10° below average.

Today’s Forecast: Sunshine & a Beautiful Sunrise

Morning: Comfortable temps in the 50s and 60s, with plenty of sunshine.

Afternoon: Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s across the Valley and into the Tri-Cities.

Evening: High thin clouds drift in, setting up what could be a gorgeous East Tennessee sunset. Perfect weather for dinner on the patio, with temps in the low to mid-70s by 7–8 PM.

📸 Don’t forget—send me your Witcher Pictures of tonight’s sunset!

The Week Ahead: Dry, Comfortable & Fall-Like
This dry, crisp pattern sticks with us for most of the week. Here’s what to expect:

  • Tuesday–Thursday: Sunshine dominates. A few fair-weather clouds here and there.

  • Coolest Morning: Wednesday morning could be the chilliest of the week, with lows dipping into the mid-50sacross the Valley and even cooler on the Plateau and in the Smokies.

  • Highs: Staying in the upper 70s to low 80s all week long—about 10° below normal for late August.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend
Humidity begins to creep back in by Saturday and Sunday, along with the chance for isolated showers or pop-up thunderstorms. Nothing widespread, so weekend plans—including outdoor events—shouldn’t be washed out.

And speaking of the weekend—the Big Kahuna Wing Festival is coming up Sunday, August 31st at World’s Fair Park in Knoxville. With live music, great entertainment, and thousands of wings, it’s one of the highlights of summer. Tickets are on sale now at bigkahunafestival.com.
