Happy Saturday, everyone!
I sure hope your weekend is off to a great start. We’re tracking a storm system off to our west that will eventually become the one bringing us much-needed rain showers as we move into next week.

Right now, that upper-level low is spinning over the Rockies and kicking off a lot of energy, producing heavy rain to our west and southwest. Through today and Sunday, though, that system won’t have much impact here locally—outside of some clouds filtering into the region.

We’re starting this morning with chilly temperatures in the 30s and 40s, and even a little frost across Upper East Tennessee. Rogersville dropped to around 32°, while most other spots are a few degrees warmer. Expect those mid- and high-level clouds to hang around through the day, giving us filtered sunshine at times and mostly cloudy skies at others—similar to Friday’s setup.

Highs today will be right around seasonal averages, reaching the mid to upper 60s north of I-40 and upper 60s to near 70° south of I-40. Down toward Chattanooga, a few spots may even hit 71°.

If you’ve got evening plans, it’ll be a crisp fall night with temps falling into the upper 50s by 8 p.m.—perfect for sitting around a backyard fire pit or watching football. For those heading up to Lexington for Tennessee’s game against Kentucky, kickoff temperatures will be in the mid-50s, so bundle up—it’ll be a chilly one.

As for rain chances, they’ll stay low through Sunday afternoon before ramping up late Sunday night into Monday. I’ve got about a 20 percent chance for light showers Sunday evening, then more widespread and heavier rain developing overnight into Monday. That wetter pattern will carry us through much of next week.

Here’s how it plays out:

  • Sunday: Increasing clouds, isolated light rain possible late.

  • Monday: Widespread showers, possibly moderate to heavy at times.

  • Tuesday: Brief lull in the action with scattered light rain.

  • Wednesday–Thursday: The main system settles in again, bringing another round of steady rainfall.

Rain totals could reach 1–2 inches across much of East Tennessee by the end of the week—very beneficial considering October has been one of our drier months.

Through the weekend, temperatures will stay near average, making it a perfect couple of days to enjoy the fall colors. (And if you head out to the mountains or parks, send in your photos—I’d love to share them!)
