Good morning and happy Wednesday, everybody!
Grab the rain gear once again because another rainmaker is moving through East Tennessee. We’ve already started the day with scattered showers and damp roads, and more waves of rain are on the way as this system continues to strengthen and lift northward.

Expect off-and-on rain through the day, with pockets of moderate to even heavy downpours at times. It’s not an all-day washout, but showers will be frequent enough to keep things wet—especially from late morning through the afternoon commute.
Temperatures are starting in the 40s and 50s this morning and will stay cool through the day, with highs only reaching the mid to upper 50s.
Rainfall totals by tonight could range anywhere from a quarter inch to over an inch across parts of the area. Some locations that have already seen several inches this week could tack on a bit more before the system moves out.
Winds will also be a factor today. A Wind Advisory is in effect through 10 p.m. for the mountains and foothills of East Tennessee, where southeasterly gusts could reach 50–55 mph. Areas such as Tellico Plains, Townsend, Wears Valley, Maryville, Newport, and Greeneville may experience the strongest winds. Elsewhere, expect breezy conditions with gusts around 20–25 mph.
By tonight, showers will gradually taper off, though light rain may linger into Thursday morning before clearing later in the day. Once this system exits, conditions will begin to improve just in time for Halloween.
Rain totals from this multi-day event will end up around 2–3 inches, with some pockets nearing 4 inches—a welcome sight after our dry October stretch.
Looking ahead:
-
Thursday: Morning rain fades, clearing in the afternoon.
-
Friday (Halloween): Dry and cool, highs in the mid-50s, trick-or-treat temps in the upper 40s to low 50s.
-
Saturday–Sunday: Mild and partly cloudy, highs near 60°.
-
Early next week: Small chance of light showers Sunday into Monday.
Average highs for late October are around 67°, so we’ll stay below that through the weekend.
And a quick update on Hurricane Melissa—now a Category 3 storm crossing over Cuba after causing major devastation in Jamaica. It’s expected to continue north into the Atlantic in the coming days. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this powerful storm.
