Happy Monday, everyone!
I’m meteorologist Mike Witcher, and I sure hope you’re having a great start to the week. After yesterday’s cold front, much colder and drier air has settled into East Tennessee. We’re waking up this morning to temperatures running 25 to 30 degrees colder than yesterday — starting off in the 30s and 40s across the region.
It’s definitely a jacket morning, but you’ll be able to shed those layers later. Plenty of sunshine will warm us up nicely this afternoon, with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees — classic fall weather.

Today’s Forecast
-
Morning: 30s and 40s, clear and chilly
-
Afternoon: Sunny, 68–70°
-
Evening: Cool, 58° by 8 PM
If you’re out late tonight, keep that jacket handy. Once the sun goes down, temperatures will drop quickly again.
Another Cold Front Tuesday
Our calm, sunny stretch won’t last long. A weak cold front slides through the area Tuesday, bringing a reinforcing shot of cooler, drier air. This front may produce a few light showers, but overall, it’s a mainly dry system.
Behind it, we’ll feel another cool-down with morning lows dipping into the 30s and 40s through midweek. With clear skies and dry air in place, we could even see patchy frost Thursday and Friday mornings — especially in sheltered valleys and higher elevations.
Late-Week Pattern Change – Watching the Weekend Storm System
While this early-week cold front brings dry air, the end of the week brings a new story. Out west, a developing storm system over California will trek east across the Rockies and into the Central U.S. by the weekend.
That system is expected to generate widespread rain and even some severe weather west of the Mississippi River before reaching East Tennessee late Saturday into Sunday. As it approaches, we’ll see rising dew points, thicker clouds, and increasing rain chances.
Weekend Outlook
Saturday and Sunday look unsettled, with showers and possible thunderstorms developing as that storm system arrives. It’s still early, but this could bring some much-needed rainfall to the region.
7-Day Forecast Highlights
-
Monday–Thursday: Cool, sunny, and dry
-
Friday: Warming slightly, still pleasant
-
Saturday–Sunday: Increasing clouds and rain chances return
Temperatures will stay below average through Thursday before rebounding near seasonal norms by the weekend. Average highs this time of year are around 71°, and we’ll hover close to that again by Friday and Saturday.
