Good morning, East Tennessee! It’s 09:41 AM EDT on Monday, August 4, 2025, and as your local meteorologist, I’m rolling out the latest weather update—right now! Happy Monday! We’re starting the day with very comfortable temperatures, with morning lows in the 60s across all of East Tennessee, thanks to that lower humidity that’s been slowly settling in. So I hope you had a chance to enjoy it—step outside and soak in that crisp air! Through the week, though, the humidity will gradually increase, bringing more of a muggy feel, while high pressure builds, pushing our high temperatures back to those seasonal averages. Plus, while we’ve got some rain chances midweek, the end of the week and the weekend are trending drier. This easy-to-grab blog dives deep into today’s forecast for Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Great Smoky Mountains, then lays out the rest of the story in detail—so let’s jump in and get ready!

Today, Monday:  A Refreshing Start with Light Rain Later
We’re kicking off this Monday with a real treat—morning temps dipping into the 60s for everyone, made possible by dew points in the 50s and 60s that keep the air feeling fresh and comfortable. We had a little fog earlier, but it’s not enough to slow most of you down—just a soft morning haze. If you’ve got any cool photos to share, upload them on the eastTNweather app under Witcher’s Pictures—I’d love to see your shots! The rest of the day will stay mostly cloudy, with some hit-and-miss sunshine peeking through as a new disturbance rolls our way. Those clouds will thicken through the afternoon, bringing a chance for some light rain later today, mainly in the eastern half of East Tennessee along the foothills and mountains. So keep that in mind if you’re heading that way later. We likely won’t see much thunderstorm action, though, since the cooler air mass isn’t providing enough instability to spark anything wild. Highs today will reach the upper 70s to low 80s—cooler than average and perfect for enjoying the day. The Rest of the Story: Tuesday Through Sunday
Looking ahead, Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6, will follow a similar script. Morning lows will stay in the 60s, keeping that comfortable start, but the humidity will start creeping up as the week progresses. Highs will hover in the low 80s, with mostly cloudy skies and a chance for some passing showers—though don’t expect a downpour, just a sprinkle here and there. The disturbance bringing today’s rain will linger, keeping things moist but not overwhelming.

Thursday, August 7, through the weekend—Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10—will see a shift as a ridge of high pressure builds back in. This will warm our highs back to seasonal averages, likely in the mid-80s to low 90s, and the increasing humidity will push the heat index toward 95-100°F by the weekend. The good news? Rain chances will decrease, trending drier as the ridge takes hold, though a stray shower can’t be ruled out. The air will feel a bit stickier, but it’ll still be manageable compared to July’s scorchers.

The Rest of the Forecast: Next Week and Beyond
Next week, that high pressure ridge will strengthen, locking in warmer conditions with highs climbing into the low to mid-90s and heat index values potentially nearing 100-105°F as humidity builds. Rain chances will stay low, with only isolated afternoon showers possible, mostly along the higher terrain of the Smokies and Cumberland Plateau where lift might trigger a sprinkle. The Climate Prediction Center suggests this warmer, drier trend could hold for the next 7-10 days, with temperatures trending toward or slightly above average and rainfall dropping below normal—classic late-summer weather.

Looking toward mid-to-late August, the pattern might see some fluctuation. Highs could push into the upper 80s to mid-90s, with heat index values settling around 95-100°F as humidity stabilizes. Afternoon storms will become more frequent, driven by summer heat and passing disturbances, offering a mix of sun and rain to keep things balanced. If a weak front sneaks through, we might get a brief cool-down or a bump in rain, but no major shifts are on the radar yet. The season’s warmth will persist, but the intensity should ease compared to earlier peaks. For Knoxville locals, Chattanooga outdoor fans, and Smoky Mountain visitors, this means savoring today’s cool vibe, preparing for a muggy midweek, and enjoying a drier weekend.

Tropical Update: Keeping an Eye on the Tropics
Let’s shift gears to the tropics! We’re gearing up as peak hurricane season isn’t until September 10, so things are just starting to ramp up. Right now, we’ve got Tropical Storm Dexter spinning out in the Atlantic—don’t worry, it’s on track to stay a ‘fish storm,’ meaning it’ll miss us and head out to sea. The National Hurricane Center is also watching two areas of concern. One’s along the southeastern U.S. coast with a 30% chance of becoming our next named storm over the next 7 days—nothing major yet. The other is a wave off the coast of Africa with a 50% chance, and some of the latest model guidance suggests it could be one to watch for the U.S. by the end of next week. Time will tell, so stay tuned—I’ll keep you posted! Track these developments with the eastTNweather app—DOWNLOAD my FREE app now at https://onelink.to/easttnweather for the latest updates!

ABOVE AND BEYOND THE 7 DAY FORECAST

Why This Weather is Happening
That comfortable start comes from a cold front that’s brought lower humidity, giving us those delightful 60s this morning. The incoming disturbance will add clouds and light rain, while the building high pressure later will warm things up and dry us out. It’s a classic summer transition—cool now, warming up with a wet twist midweek, then settling into a drier rhythm. Stay alert!
