Good morning, East Tennessee!
Happy Sunday to you, and thanks for checking in with your local forecast from the eastTNweather team. I hope you’re enjoying a relaxing weekend. Today brings a bit more cloud coverage compared to Saturday, but overall we’re still on track for a comfortable day with average early September temperatures.

-
️ Tuesday: Isolated showers possible with a Carolina low
-

Sunday Morning Setup
We started off the day on a mild and pleasant note, with morning lows in the 50s and 60s. Clouds have been hanging around—especially across the Cumberland Plateau—thanks to a weak wave of energy slipping through the region. A few light sprinkles and isolated showers showed up earlier, but nothing widespread or long-lasting.
Through the day:
-
Clouds: Gradually thinning, especially across the Valley and Smokies.
-
Plateau: Clouds likely to linger longer, holding on a bit stronger this afternoon.
-
Temperatures:
-
Upper 70s by lunchtime
-
Highs back into the low to mid 80s, with a few upper 80s possible in southern spots
-
Evening Forecast: Comfortable Finish to the Weekend
If you’re wrapping up the weekend with a walk, grilling out, or heading to evening church services, the weather will cooperate.
-
6 PM: Around 82°
-
8 PM: 76°
-
10 PM: Near 71°
It’ll be a mild and pleasant evening—great fire pit weather if you missed out on Friday or Saturday night.

Looking Ahead: Rain Chances Return, Sort Of
The next 7 days bring a few opportunities for rain, but nothing widespread or flooding-worthy at this point.
-
Tuesday: A low-pressure system drifting through the Carolinas could toss some moisture our way. With just enough instability in the atmosphere, we’ll carry about a 20% chance of showers. Most communities will stay dry, but don’t be surprised by a pop-up shower.
-
Wednesday–Thursday: Dry again with more sunshine, highs climbing into the upper 80s.
-
Friday–Saturday: Models are advertising another trough of low pressure swinging in from the north. This one could increase rain chances and even deliver a slight cool down by next weekend.

Rainfall Outlook: Trending a Bit Wetter, Maybe and Warmer than Average
The Climate Prediction Center has nudged rainfall projections upward compared to yesterday’s outlook. While we’re still not expecting soaking rains, we may end up slightly above average for rainfall heading into mid-September if that trough develops as models suggest.
For a typically dry month, even a little extra rain is welcome news across East Tennessee.
Plus, we may be trending above average. All that means is highs could be above 84°.
ABOVE AND BEYOND THE 7 DAY FORECAST

Final Word
Sunday won’t be quite as sunny as Saturday, but it will still be comfortable with highs in the low to mid 80s and a pleasant evening ahead. A stray shower or two is possible Tuesday, then another system late week could boost rain chances and bring cooler air into East Tennessee.
