Good morning and thanks for checking in with your full East Tennessee weather forecast. I sure hope you’re having a great day so far. Yesterday brought us a mix of 70s and 80s for high temperatures along with some much-needed rainfall across parts of the region. That rain was tied to an upper-level low that pulled in some extra moisture and instability, but that system is now sliding on out. Today, our weather pattern shifts back toward a more stable setup, and it’s going to carry us through the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Let’s break it down. A ridge of high pressure is beginning to build across the Southeast, and that’s going to be the dominant feature over the next several days. With this ridge in control, we’ll see sinking air, drier conditions, and a gradual warming trend. At the same time, a trough to our north and northwest won’t quite push through the Tennessee Valley, but its influence will help nudge temperatures upward. The result? Warmer afternoons, limited rainfall, and more seasonable conditions as we head toward the weekend.
Today’s Forecast
For today, expect a very average September day. Temperatures climb into the 70s by lunchtime, topping out in the low to mid 80s this afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny with only a few passing clouds. A stray shower can’t be ruled out — mainly across the southern valley or up toward the Smoky Mountains — but most of us will stay dry. By this evening, temps fall back to around 80° by 6 p.m. and into the 70° range by 10 p.m., setting up a pleasant night.

A Look Ahead
Looking at rain chances across East Tennessee, they’re going to stay very low. We’re only talking about a 10% chance here or there for a pop-up shower or storm, and again, the best opportunities will be across higher terrain like the Cumberland Plateau and Smoky Mountain counties. Most of the active rainfall over the next week will remain well to our west in the Mississippi River Valley. Locally, the overall weather pattern looks relatively dry, and this trend may carry us right through the end of September and even into the start of October.
Now, let’s talk football weather. Neyland Stadium will host another big game on Saturday, and the forecast looks warmer than last weekend. Highs will climb into the upper 80s, so it’ll be toasty for kickoff — sunscreen, hats, and hydration are all good ideas if you’re heading out to tailgate. The good news is skies should stay mostly sunny, and rain chances remain very low. By Sunday, more seasonable weather returns, and that trend will carry into early next week.
And don’t forget — Monday marks the official first day of fall. This year, the season will start on a very average note, with highs near normal and comfortable evenings. Longer-range outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center, however, are hinting at above-average temperatures as we finish out September and head into the first part of October. So, while we’ll get some seasonal breaks, the warmth isn’t done with us just yet.
