Celebrating 2 Years of eastTNweather!

Good morning, friends! Hard to believe it, but today marks the two-year anniversary of eastTNweather. From the very beginning, our mission has been simple: to deliver accurate, hyper-local forecasts for East Tennessee that you can actually rely on — whether you’re in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Crossville, the Smoky Mountains, or up in the Tri-Cities. I want to say a heartfelt thank you for trusting me with your weather every single day across YouTube, Roku, Amazon Fire, the app, and social media. You’ve built this platform right alongside me. Here’s to the next two years and beyond!

Now let’s get into today’s forecast.

Today’s Forecast – A Comfortabel Start, Mostly Dry Afternoon

We’re beginning this Wednesday morning with a refreshing start in the 50s and 60s across East Tennessee. It feels like a classic fall morning, and while we’ll see some clouds build this afternoon, overall it’s going to be a pretty nice day.

Moisture is still wrapping around Hurricane Alda, which officially strengthened into a hurricane earlier today with winds at 85 mph and gusts up to 105 mph. That leftover moisture could spark a few isolated showers or a stray thunderstorm, but rain chances remain low. For most of us, it’s a dry day with partly sunny skies.

Highs will reach the low to mid 80s, right around or just above seasonal averages for this time of year.

Looking Ahead – A Ridge of High Pressure Brings a Brief Cool Down

Thursday looks dry with more sunshine on tap. By Friday, temperatures take a slight dip as a ridge of high pressure builds in from Canada. That Canadian high is going to funnel in some cooler, drier air into the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern U.S., which moderates nicely for us here in East Tennessee.

Expect upper 70s to near 80 degrees Friday and Saturday, before warming back into the low to mid 80s as we move into early next week. It’s not a major cold snap, but you’ll definitely notice that hint of fall in the air.

Tropics Update – Imelda and Humberto

In the Atlantic, Hurricane Ombberto and Hurricane Alda are doing a bit of a crisscross dance. The good news for us: both systems are moving away from the U.S. mainland. That means no direct impacts here in Tennessee.

Still, these storms are helping steer moisture and shape our larger weather pattern. Their interaction is part of why that ridge of high pressure is settling in and keeping us mostly dry here at home.

Rain Chances Return – Maybe
While the end of this week looks dry, I’ve added a 20% chance of rain Sunday and Monday. A small disturbance is expected to slide in from the north, which could bring a few scattered showers. Nothing major, but worth keeping in mind if you’ve got outdoor plans.

Beyond that, long-range guidance shows us trending average to slightly drier than normal into the second week of October.

The 7-Day Forecast at a Glance

  • Wednesday: AM 50s/60s → PM low-mid 80s, low rain chances

  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, highs in the low 80s

  • Friday: Cooler, highs upper 70s

Wrapping Up

So here’s the bottom line: smooth sailing for much of this week with only minimal rain chances Sunday and Monday. Otherwise, sunshine and comfortable fall air will dominate as September ends and October begins.
