Good morning and Happy Tuesday.

Thanks for checking in with your East Tennessee weather update. After yesterday’s temperature swings, we’re settling into a quieter and cooler pattern today with sunshine returning and very limited rain chances ahead.

Why Yesterday’s “High Temperature” Was Misleading

Let’s start with a quick note from yesterday. While the official high hit 72°, that actually happened just after midnight. Temperatures then dropped into the 40s and 50s before climbing back into the 60s during the afternoon.

It’s a good reminder that timing matters when it comes to temperatures—you can’t always rely on just the number without the context.

Morning Clouds, But No Rain Expected

A weak disturbance is moving through the region early this morning, bringing some mid to high-level cloud cover.

  • A few clouds to start the day
  • Maybe a couple of radar blips showing up
  • No rainfall expected due to very dry air near the surface

Those clouds will move out quickly, setting us up for a sunny afternoon.

Cooler Start, Comfortable Afternoon

It’s noticeably cooler this morning compared to yesterday.

  • Temperatures are 20 to 25 degrees colder than yesterday morning
  • Starting out in the 30s and 40s
  • Light jacket needed early

By the afternoon:

  • Lunchtime temperatures near 50
  • Afternoon highs in the low to mid 60s
  • A few upper 60s to near 70 across the southern valley

A very comfortable and seasonable day overall.

Dry Air Dominates Today

Behind the front, very dry air has settled in.

  • Low humidity levels today
  • Bright blue skies this afternoon
  • Comfortable conditions with little moisture in the air

That dry air will stick around through midweek.

Air Quality Improving, But Not Perfect

The cold front has helped clear out much of the smoke and haze we’ve been dealing with, but it’s not completely gone.

  • Overall air quality has improved significantly
  • Still some lingering smoke, especially from fires to the north
  • Northerly winds may bring some smoke into areas like Fentress and Scott County

Most locations will notice clearer skies, but a slight haze is still possible in spots.

Next Rain Chance: Friday Cold Front

Looking ahead, our next chance for rain arrives late this week.

  • A system from the Pacific Northwest moves into the region
  • Cold front approaches Friday
  • Scattered light rain showers expected Friday into Friday night
  • Rainfall totals remain low

This system will once again bring in cooler and drier air for the weekend.Have a great Monday, and we’ll keep you updated as the week unfolds.

7-Day East Tennessee Outlook
