Happy Monday, East Tennessee!
As your local meteorologist, I’m rolling out the latest weather update for Monday, July 7, 2025. Whoa—get ready, because that humidity is going to smack you right in the face! It’s way higher than it was over the 4th of July weekend, feeling like air you can wear. This easy-to-read blog breaks down the forecast day by day for Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Great Smoky Mountains, with a look at what’s coming. Let’s dive in and tackle the week!

Monday: Sticky Start with a Hot, Stormy Afternoon
We’re kicking off the day with that thick humidity hanging around, making everything feel heavier than it did last week. It’s sticking with us all day, pushing the heat index hotter than the weekend. Highs will hit the mid-90s, with the heat index climbing near 100°F—yep, it’s a scorcher! There’s a little burst of energy up high in the atmosphere (we call it vorticity), which might kick off some isolated afternoon storms. Look for them mostly along the Cumberland Plateau and the western Valley. Stay cool and keep an eye on the sky!

Tuesday: Same Old Heat and Humidity Tune
Tuesday, July 8, plays the same tune—high humidity keeps the heat index sizzling, with highs still in the mid-90s and that feels-like temp near 100°F. We might see a few more of those isolated storms pop up in the same spots, the Plateau and western Valley. It’s another hot one, so plan your day with some shade in mind.

Wednesday: Clouds Roll In with Better Rain Chances
By Wednesday, July 9, a stronger wave of energy swings through, bringing more clouds and a solid chance for much-needed rain. We’re way behind on rainfall, and my lawn’s begging for it, so this is welcome news! The coverage should be better, giving more of us a soak. With the clouds and rain in play, temps will drop back to seasonal norms, with highs in the upper 80s. The heat index won’t be as brutal, but it’ll still feel super muggy.

Thursday: Rain Keeps Coming with a Muggy Feel
Thursday, July 10, keeps the rain trend going. Those shower and storm chances stick around, spreading out a bit more. It’s still that much-needed moisture we’ve been waiting for, and with highs staying in the upper 80s, it’ll feel sticky but not as oven-like. Enjoy the break from the extreme heat!

Friday: More Rain with a Cooler Edge
Friday, July 11, brings another dose of rain as that energy lingers. The coverage should hold steady, maybe even giving us a good drench in spots. Highs will hover in the upper 80s, keeping things cooler than earlier, though the muggy air won’t let up. It’s a nice shift to wrap the workweek.

Weekend: Rain Lingers with Muggy Days
Heading into the weekend—Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13—the rain chances stick around. Nothing too wild, just a steady chance for showers and storms to keep the ground happy. Highs will stay in the upper 80s, and that muggy feel will hang out, making it a damp but tolerable couple of days.

ABOVE AND BEYOND THE 7 DAY FORECAST

Looking past the 7 Day Forecast, the Climate Prediction Center has issues a forecast based on probabilities.
These maps don’t show you how far above or below, but rather an idea of how strong the signal is.

Why This Weather Matters
That humidity hitting today is from a shift in the air flow, turning up the heat index. The rain starting Wednesday is a lifeline for our dry spell, brought by that stronger energy. For Knoxville locals, Chattanooga outdoor fans, and Smoky Mountain visitors, this helps you plan and stay safe.
