Happy Wednesday, everyone—Hump Day!

I’m meteorologist Mike Witcher, and thanks for checking in with your full forecast. We’re halfway through the work week, and the weather story over the next few days is all about waves of rain, a deepening trough, and the potential for localized flooding across East Tennessee.

The Big Picture
A trough is digging into the eastern U.S., pulling in copious amounts of Gulf moisture. That’s setting the stage for rounds of rain, some thunderstorms, and even a risk for isolated severe weather. The heaviest rain is expected tonight through Thursday, then lingers into Friday with lighter showers hanging around into the weekend.

Severe Weather Potential

  • The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the western valley and Cumberland Plateau under a low-end severe risk.

  • Strong wind gusts are the main concern, along with very heavy rainfall.

  • By Thursday into Friday, that risk shifts southeast toward the Smoky Mountains and into the Carolinas.

Flooding Concerns
Flooding and flash flooding are possible, especially in low-lying, flood-prone, and poor-drainage areas. With several rounds of rain expected, some spots could easily pick up 1–2 inches of rainfall by Friday.

Saturday & Sunday Outlook
While the heaviest rain exits Friday, moisture lingers:

  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy skies, a few light showers possible, but not a washout.

  • Sunday: Still cloud cover, maybe a passing sprinkle, but generally drier than Saturday.

    Temperatures

  • Highs today and Thursday: upper 70s to near 80 (a touch below average).

  • Overnight lows: mid-60s.

  • By late weekend into early next week, temperatures gradually rebound, trending back toward the low to mid-80s.

  • Long range: Heat could build again heading into early October.

    7 Day Highlights

  • Wednesday–Thursday: Heavy rain, localized flooding possible, isolated strong storms.

  • Friday: Scattered showers tapering, cooler air moving in.

  • Saturday: Cloudy, a few showers.

  • Sunday–Tuesday: Drier, gradual warming trend.

Final Thoughts
So, the next 48 hours bring the biggest impacts: heavy rain, possible flooding, and a few strong storms. By the weekend, conditions improve, though clouds and a few showers may hang around. Then, as October approaches, we’ll warm back up again.
