After a chilly start to this Sunday morning, many residents across East Tennessee woke up to widespread frost and clear skies. Temperatures dropped overnight into the 30s in rural valleys and low 40s in cities like Knoxville, making it one of the colder mornings we’ve seen this spring season. If you’re in areas like Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, or the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you may have seen frost clinging to rooftops and fields—a true reminder that spring weather can still pack a wintry punch.

Thankfully, sunshine will quickly take over by mid-morning, bringing a beautiful afternoon with much warmer conditions. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 60s, making it a perfect day for outdoor activities. Whether you’re heading to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, hiking in the Smokies, or enjoying brunch in downtown Chattanooga, the weather will be ideal. Knoxville weather will be especially pleasant today, and with the Dogwood Arts Festival in full swing, it’s a great day to get outside and enjoy all that East Tennessee has to offer.

This warming trend continues into the new work week. Monday will bring even more noticeable warmth as a strong ridge of high pressure settles over the southeastern United States. With it comes a steady southerly wind between 5 to 15 mph, with occasional gusts reaching 30 mph, especially in exposed areas across the Cumberland Plateau and the Tennessee Valley. These winds will push temperatures into the mid to upper 70s—well above seasonal averages for April.

Clouds will gradually increase Monday afternoon as a weak cold front approaches the region. This system is expected to arrive late Monday night into Tuesday morning, bringing light rain across much of East Tennessee. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain under a quarter inch, so this system will have minimal impact on your day. Still, areas like Crossville, the Tri-Cities, and Chattanooga could see some light, brief showers, particularly during the early morning commute on Tuesday.

Following the front, skies will begin clearing on Tuesday afternoon, setting the stage for a stretch of beautiful spring weather. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring partly to mostly sunny skies and cooler temperatures in the low to mid 60s. High pressure will once again dominate the region, keeping conditions dry and comfortable.

As we move into Thursday and the Easter Weekend, warmer air returns. Highs will climb into the upper 70s by Good Friday and Saturday, with overnight lows staying mild in the 50s and even some low 60s in urban areas. This is fantastic news for anyone planning Easter egg hunts, family gatherings, or a sunrise church service. Weather across Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Chattanooga, and the entire Smoky Mountain region looks to be sunny, warm, and dry—some of the best weather we’ve seen all season.

Looking beyond Easter, long-range models are hinting at a return to more unsettled conditions. Another cold front is likely to approach the region late Easter Sunday into early the following week, potentially bringing rain and thunderstorms. While it’s too early to pinpoint timing or intensity, it’s something to keep on your radar.

LOOKING AHEAD: WARMING UP FOR EASTER WEEKEND
The good news for those making plans for Easter weekend is that the warmer air returns by Friday and into the holiday weekend. While long-range forecasts can shift slightly, current trends suggest temperatures rising back into the upper 60s to low 70s with a drier setup taking shape.

It’s still a little early to pinpoint exact Easter Sunday weather, but signs are pointing toward pleasant and warm conditions, which will be great for family gatherings, egg hunts, and travel.
