Good morning, East Tennessee!
I’m meteorologist Mike Witcher, and thanks for checking in with your Monday weather update. I hope your day is off to a great start. We’re looking at another warm and toasty afternoon with highs climbing into the mid 80s today, followed by low 80s on Tuesday. After that, we’ll see a gradual warmup as a ridge of high pressure strengthens over the region.
Today’s Forecast
There is a 20 percent chance for a few showers and isolated thunderstorms each afternoon over the next couple of days. Most of this activity will be tied to an upper-level low tracking northward. Because of its position, it’s pulling just enough moisture into East Tennessee to spark some scattered showers, especially over the higher elevations like the Smokies and the Plateau. For the Valley, rain will be spottier, but I’ll keep that 20 percent chance in the forecast through Wednesday.

A Look Ahead
By Thursday and Friday, the pattern dries out again with more sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 80s. Heading into the weekend, another trough may slide into the region, nudging rain chances a little higher on Saturday and Sunday. Still, we’re not expecting a washout, just some scattered showers and storms to keep an eye on.
Looking at rainfall totals for the next seven days, the higher terrain will again be the main recipient. The Valley should stay mostly dry with lighter amounts, while the Plateau and mountains could pick up a bit more. Beyond the 7-day forecast, the Climate Prediction Center is hinting at above-average precipitation for parts of the Appalachian region, but the bigger story is likely the heat. Model guidance continues to suggest that the end of September and start of October will trend warmer than average as another ridge builds into the eastern U.S.
Here’s your 7-day breakdown:
• Monday – Mix of sun and clouds, 20% chance of afternoon showers or storms, highs mid 80s.
• Tuesday – Similar setup with a few showers possible, highs low 80s.
• Wednesday – Stray shower possible, otherwise partly sunny, highs in the 80s.
• Thursday & Friday – Dry, warmer, lots of sunshine, highs mid to upper 80s.
• Saturday & Sunday – Slight uptick in rain chances, partly cloudy, highs mid to upper 80s.

Final Word
So the big takeaway: a warm week ahead with only small chances for pop-up showers, mainly over the mountains. Sunshine dominates late week, and then a trough could stir up a few showers for the weekend.
